Technologies and processes for the valorization of oliveoil and wine by-products: olive and wine biorefineries

The 3rd Regional Workshop – Puglia Hub of the ROBOCOOP-EU project’s Living Lab series was successfully held, bringing together over 30 local stakeholders — including entrepreneurs, institutional representatives, academic researchers, and civil society — to discuss the future of circular bioeconomy in Puglia.

Key topics of the day:

• Innovative business models for agrocooperatives in the olive and wine sectors
• Scenarios for cooperation between agriculture, research, and industry
• New biorefinery approaches and the market and policy frameworks for #biobased products

Participants engaged in technical discussions and round tables moderated by the ROBOCOOP-EU team and CIHEAM Bari (Maroun El Moujabber and Noureddin Driouech).
Collaborative working groups facilitated by the CIHEAM Bari team (Noureddin Driouech, Francesco Bottalico, Michel Frem, Ivana Cavoski, Tiziana Tota, and Angela Ferrari) used the LivingLab methodology to explore barriers and enablers for market uptake of bio-based products.

The discussions addressed the challenges in implementing biorefineries and reviewed the Italian and European regulatory frameworks on agricultural by-products, #waste, and #reuse in the food supply chain.

Notable contributions came from CIHEAM Bari, Regione Puglia, Biodistretto delle Lame, University of Bari, and EggPlant Srl, who shared insights and experiences to support the #greentransition of the agri-food sector.
