2nd Regional Living Lab workshop in W.Macedonia

On the 28th of March 2025, the 2nd LL regional workshop happened in Western Macedonia, CluBE gathered 15 key stakeholders from the primary sector, academia, and business.

Following the first workshop, which focused on the general opportunities for valorising by-products from grape, olive, and stone fruit production, this second one focused on specific technologies and processes being used in the ROBOCOOP-EU project for characterising and extracting the bio-molecules of agricultural residues. Participants examined valuable biocomposites made from these by-products and explored practical strategies for regional implementation.

The regional actors were actively involved and the main areas covered were raw material sourcing and preparation, key technologies and processes for by-product valorisation, molecules of interest and potential markets. In addition, business models were again discussed and attendees provided feedback on the proposed business models, contributing data to design the scenario of a future biorefinery in the region.

A collaborative atmosphere fostered rich dialogue around practical strategies for regional implementation. Participants also provided feedback on the business models proposed in earlier sessions, contributing valuable input and data to help design a future biorefinery suited to the needs and opportunities of Western Macedonia.

By focusing on both technical innovation and local engagement, this Living Lab plays a crucial role in shaping a circular, bio-based economy for the region—turning agricultural residues into resources for sustainable growth.
